What is sensori-neural deafness?
Sensorineural deafness is a type of hearing loss in which the root cause lies in the vestibulo-cochlear nerve (Cranial nerve VIII), the inner ear, or central processing centers of the brain. However, the great majority of human sensorineural hearing loss is caused by abnormalities in the hair cells of the organ of Corti in the cochlea or in the vestibulo-cochlear nerve.
How is an implant different from a hearing aid?
While a hearing aid amplifies sounds, a cochlear implant works by directly stimulating any functioning auditory nerves inside the cochlea with electrical energy
